Nouveau Girl 12 'I Have a Secret' by tjentom Nouveau Girl 12 'I Have a Secret' by tjentom
Final render of Nouveau girl. Modeled in MAX, rendered in Key Shot, Photoshop to finish.

Lot of photoshop for the hair. The cad for the hair is poly model, mainly because it's made to be printed on a plastic printer. Doesn't render nice though, thus the photoshop. Skin has a slight depth effect, and the green cloth is a velvet texture. Background is is just a flat image that matches the DOF for the render on the girl. Rendered with the background in place so the foreground and background blend nicely.

Here is another pose

Great picture again. I sure hope you get a hold of another quality printer and you can continue this journey.

Thanks. That made my day!

<br / />

I learned the freckles trick on DA somewhere. Just add some quick freckles to a PhotoShop paint and presto - it looks better. I just applied that to my texture map and it had the same results!

That's really great work. She looks a bit like Rapunzel from the Disneymovie. Not green eyes though :P
So this model is your own? Very impressive.

Yeah, this model was heavily inspired by Disney's Rapunzel. Good eye. I grabbed lots of reference and incorporated. But, yup, this model was from scratch. Modeled, UV'd, rigged all in max, though some of the fine wrinkles were added in z brush.

That's amazing work. I'd love to get to that level of design knowledge, but I'm still early on in my rendering. I thought of Rapunzel at once, and I consider that princess being the top cute one in the Disney league, without any competition really. I've been looking for a 3d model like that one, but I wasn't surprised not finding any that was too close to looking like her.

is Key Shot a plug in for Max or you had to bring it into the Key Shot and texture and light it there?

no plugin. UV'd in max and export to obj. import in Keyshot. the uv's stick, though only the diffuse is automatically applied. You can just go into the material in keyshot and add a bump and opacity etc...
Lighting all done in keyshot. It's simple but it's enough for me. I use a lot of photoshop... ^_^ - cheater

Thanks, i really worked on the expression. it's my first 3d smile. didn't realize how much lips flatten out.

Thanks - was going for cute.  DOF took FOREVER to render. Using a farm with 50 cores and still took an hour. didn't want to take up bandwidth so the quality is rather low (for the DOF) that's why i put a heavy grain on the background. ha ha - cheap

Ok busta - if it's like that then... consider me inspired. Doing an Aku-inspired render now. Crazy DOF going on so it's going to take 60+ hours on 48 cores for a 4k X 2k image!! On second thought, I think I'll cut that in half. That's better - only 10 hours... not too bad, but only 2k X 1K.

I'm using a broken peice of glass to achieve my affect. I love the reflection onn the ground but was her leg supposed to reflect off of the drapery?

Aahh! I thought that was what it was.

reflect on the drapes - i was kind of just going with the flow - though i didn't think the final render would show the reflection of the leg so clearly. the drapes actually use a modified glass texture which is what catches interesting shapes if highlights flowing around, but then it does reflect also. Do you think the reflection is a distraction or look bad?

Do I think it is distracting? No. I don't think it makes sense that something in the foreground would clearly reflect something that far away in the background.

Ok I got it now. the part that's reflecting is actually in the background, but it seems like it's reading as in the foreground. Good observation and thanks for clarifying! I'll go tweak it. It does seem odd when looked at that way. Much thanks for taking the time!
